The obvious solution to deforestation is to cease the clearance of forested land. Although this is an obvious solution stopping people from clearing forests is a major problem. Loggers which are involved in the timber trade are capable of making large sums of money from the timber which they cut and ship.
The current solutions to stem the rate in which forests are being devastated include:
Recycling.
Increasing tree plantations.
Replanting areas which have been deforested.
Education about the forests.
Another recent idea which is being implemented in Brazil is that of fines.
The idea of recycling is to reduce the need for more lumber to be cut to produce products which contain paper. If less lumber is needed to produce a product it will decrease the amount of lumber needing to be cut. Re-growth programs are beginning to be one of the better solutions towards helping regrow forests and lessen the impact deforestation is having on our environment. Tree plantations are also another idea to help stem the destruction of forests. The plantations do not require the destruction of a forest to begin and it is an effective way to curb the amount of lumber from forested areas needed in products. The Brazilian government is now heavily fining and taxing meat and other produce which is produced on land which was illegally deforested. The Brazilian government has a task force of over 100 inspectors to locate and identify areas which have been illegally deforested. Education is another important aspect in combating and preventing deforestation. The more people who know the impact of deforestation on the world and its enviroment, it is less likely they will want to destroy the forest.
